First I had planned to sew Bonnie Hunters Dawn's Early Light as the next quilt for the Ukraine.

But in the middle of her blue blocks there is a huge space made of neutral-strings. Looks great with her quilt but I don't have that many strings. If I sew this space with one single neutral fabric it will look plain and boring. So I opened EQ7 and started to play. I turned them and turned them and put an extra triangle in the corner and ended with this:

Not too bad! When I calculated the pieces I realised I had to use about 1.500 pieces (all these mini-friendship-stars) - no way! That are a few too many.
Back to EQ7 - how can I simplify the red block? And it still should fit the blue one. After about 6 tries I came up with this:

Hm - I'm still not happy. Too simple. I changed the middle section.

Much better!  How to turn the red corners?
I will cast the different versions when the blocks are sewn.
This quilt doesn't have much to do with Bonnies quilt. But I had practised to create blocks - that's not my forte.

The finished blocks:

And this is the final layout. I'm not thrilled (to be honest) - the neutral fabric is very boring. Hm. Maybe I can quilt it with a dominant colour?

No - I couldnt. The gifted blanket is (alas - as usual) very thick and not willing to be freemotion-quilted. Straight line it is.

Finished!

The back is very quilty, made of several small pieces:
