Ukraine 20 - Carolina Chain

I have tons of old shirts in my stash. Let's do another of Bonnie Hunter's pattern, this time Carolina Chain of her book Addicted to Scraps.

The pattern is very easy. It has to be - this quilt will be my leader-ender-project during Dear Jane.
I cut the fabric in very small pieces. The more seams the more fabric I need. And I have a lot of fabric...

Some photos during constructing the blocks:

One day I was fed up. During Dear Jane and Blooming-9patch I always made these blocks as a leader-ender - there was no end in sight!

So I took 2 hours and finished the last blocks. Done!  Now I have 192 blocks. At least I hope so.

From now on they may continue as leader-enders. First in twosies, then in foursies.

I finished the top during other quilts:

Done!

The gifted blanket was again very thick, no way I could freemotion this one. Straight-line-quilting again...

A friend had brought me batic fabric from Indonesia. But the quality was not 'quilty', so I used the fabric for snuggly backings.

Oh, I really get how sometimes you just have to put aside the "main" work of your piecing and focus on pushing through a bunch of the leader-ender project. It's great to have one of those going, but after a while you want to see a bunch of progress instead of neverending single parts. That's a nice scrappy quilt - good use of fabrics on the back that are a little under par for piecing quilt tops.
