Baby Quilt

A friend has become a grandmother (my generation is already too old to become parents).
Her daughter loves pink and purple, therefore the baby gets a pink and purple quilt - luckily it's a girl  :-)

I had found this pattern at Pinterest: Phoebe Moon. I can change the size easily to babyquilt-size.

I tried something new for the cotton-batting. Until now I sewed the batting scraps by hand together. I have a straight stitch-plate in my machine and I'm too lazy to change the plate. But I'm also too lazy to sew the scraps by hand. This time I tried Heat Press. That's terrific! Works like a dream.

finished!

And best of all: When the quilt was already quilted, the class 'Around the corner' took place - I had waited a long time for that!

I can sew neat bindings on a quilt and I can combine the two ends of the bindings. No problem. But my corners? Horrible. I saw a lot of beautiful mitered binding-corners at Pinterest - but how to make them? Then even Elaine Theriault wrote that after so many years she finally understood how to sew mitered bindings - only she didn't show HOW.

So I went to Annelie Spahn.

She explained the way and showed us how to do it - it's really easy!  She even showed us how to sew a mitered border which shows up identically on the backing  - wow. I don't want to show the tutorial with photos here - in case you're interested, book a class at Annelie's  :-).

But that's the way my corners look now:

There is nothing scrumbled. It looks neat and flat and mitered. Yeaaah - after only 4 years of quilting I already know how to make mitered corners!

I link this quilt with Amanda at crazymomquilts and Myra at busyhandsquilts.

I suppose the baby is not interested in mitered or scrumbled corners...

Wow, Nina!
    Annelie
