Xanadu - a quilt like a cake mix

A friend asked me for a quilt to give it as a present to somebody else. She searched on my site, in my books and on pinterest. She was sure that a traditional pattern would not be the right choice - it should be something very bright and colourful and joyful. She chose Xanadu, a pattern from undercoverquilts.

Undercoverquilts says on its site that you need 24 different batics, in careful selected colours.
I was afraid that we could not find these 24 colours - no problem, said my friend! Undercoverquilts offers a kit matching the pattern. She ordered both and the package arrived in time in Germany. And the 24 fabrics are really very beautiful!

But: only in the written pattern they said that the quilt of the photo was made not of 24 fabrics but of 72!! This is quite a difference. These subtle colour-variation is easy done with 72 different fabrics - but with only 24? Every batic will appear 3 times - kind of simple.

Oh well - of course I'll sew it anyway.
This quilt seems to me like a cake mix - you buy everything ready prepared. All you have to do is to mix the batter and put it in the oven i.e. sew the top. Very unfamiliar for me.

The top is spraybasted and ready for quilting:

Finished!

Details after quilting:

This time I sewed the label on the back before I quilted the sandwich - I will do this from now on. The label will last much longer on the quilt this way.
