Ukraine 22 - Strings!

The next Ukraine-quilt is a String-Quilt, my second (the first one was Spider-Web).
To learn the story of the Ukraine-quilts click here.

At Pinterest I found string-quilts with HST. Good idea - you have to pay even less attention during sewing than with the spider-web.
I started with cutting squares of newspapers, size 6.5 inch (that's exactly the size of my ruler, that saves time :-)  ). I sewed strings until the paper was covered, than starched the block. After pressing it dry I removed the paper.

Only now I trimmed the block down to 6.5 inch. The paper may distort during the process of sewing, pressing, starching and drying. It's better to wait until the block is completely done and dried.

I cut the square and added the second triangle. This one I cut from only one fabric throughout the whole quilt.

and now the fun begins! There are endless possibilites to arrange HST-blocks.

We'll see which layout will be the final one.

Ha! That's the one!

I did not have enough fabric of the light blue, so I used dark blue for the rest. I think it's ok.
And I had enough fabric for the backing, this time it's used bed-sheets.
