Ying & Yang

Ines had asked for a quilt and like all of my friends she doesn't know any quilts or quilt-patterns.
We browsed through Pinterest to get a feeling what kind of colours and patterns she might like and suddenly she said 'that one!!!'.

That's the original photo at craftsyblossom:

I gave her my sampler-set of Kona cottan fabric (it contains 220 colours) to choose the colours.

Cutting and Sewing was fast work, I finished it in 3 evenings. All what was left was the Ironing and Trimming. Ines asked 'what is trimming'?
I promised her to post photos - here they are!

Than it was Ines' job to lay the blocks as desired:

The top is finished!

Ines chose a fancy swirl-pattern for the actual quilting. It's a strong contrast to the bold colours of the blocks.
And that's how the quilt got its name: Ying & Yang - the contradiction!
And she chose my new King-Tut-yarn, this will be my first quilt with that Superior-thread.

Actually I'm not so happy with the King-Tut. I had lots of struggles with the thread-tension (I used So Fine for the bobbin).

That's the finished quilt - I like it!

Update:

The quilt hangs as a fabric-wall between two rooms in Ines' appartment.

What a nice friend you are! I want to give quilts to all my friends and family. Very pretty quilt! I love the solids and I know it's lots of work trimming all those HSTs, but worth the effort! That's great you had Ines helping out. I bought a bunch of King Tut thread also when I began FMQ and had a lot of trouble also. I use Glide thread which holds up to the fast quilting speed without breaking and also seems to help curb tension problems.

    Sheri,
Thank you for your friendly comment! Usually I FMQ with Mettler thread or monofilament. Both work fine with me. What is Glide thread? I'd like to give it a try!
