As I said in the post about Thomas' Quilt Urban meets masculin, we want to have another (!) quilt, for sleeping-directly-underneath-it in the summer.

That's the pattern: color-crush-quilt.

The blocks finish at 5 inch, at Thomas quilt they finish at 4 inch.
But we need only 238 blocks, much less than Thomas!

As much as I loved to have more space in my living room, I miss the handquilting in the morning. So we unfolded the Grace frame und put the quilt on the rails.

And started to think about quilt-patterns. We had the same problem as Thomas had: this quilt doesn't like curves or feathers.

In the book 'Loving stitches'  (again thanks to Debbie from the Yahoo-group!) we found these two patterns:

I calulated: where do I cross seamlines? How do I get the most stability?

We opted for the pattern to the right.

And that's how our living room looks like now:

It took more than a year to quilt this quilt. To be honest: I lost the desire in the spring. It was extremely difficult to punch the needle through the layers.

I have not idea why that happened. The last two big quilts (the ice-quilt and Farmer's Wife) are made of standard quilt-fabric or quilt-batics, the batting is wool.
The summerquilt is made completely front and back of Kona cotton solids, the batting is cotton.

I use a lot of spray starch during the piecing - so there is no difference. Same needle, same yarn.
Was ist the Kona fabric or the cotton-batting?

It was just arduous. In summer I decided to pick the quilt up again and finish it. And I did!

I finished the quilt in the afternoon of december 2017, it was already too dark outside to take pictures. Since I was so eager to wash it, I took some pictures with lamps in the appartment.
I'm quite anxious to wash that quilt - all that white and red? will it bleed???

All went well. Some of the darkest  - but not all - triangles bled a little bit. I took these photos when the quilt was still wet:
